Reporting to the Vice President, Research and Development, as Mechanical Engineer I, you will serve as a key member of the Product Design team. You will work collaboratively with Industrial Design and proactively inform the design of concepts, prototypes and final products by applying Good Engineering Practices with a goal of producing production-ready medical products that meet the functional, marketable and aesthetic intent of the design. More specifically, you will:
  • Support design efforts through collaboration with multiple departments such as Marketing, Industrial Design, Quality and Operations
  • Support the Design team to best achieve the functional, cost and aesthetic objectives of the project
  • Interpret communication in the form of 2D layouts, prototypes, 3D models, written or verbal instructions to achieve completed CAD layouts and models ready for production  Quick question for you - click here
  • Provide assistance on part, assembly and material testing definition, design and documentation with a goal to develop superior results in product performance and production
  • Make material and process recommendations for optimal product designs
  • Support designs in engineering technical documentation, 2D and 3D CAD formats
  • Provide support for testing, documentation and sustaining engineering as needed
The scope of each project typically includes a good deal of time dedicated to the ideation stage -- there's a lot of brainstorming as everyone shares their ideas. From concept, we'll decide on the design direction, engineer the product, test (mechanical and user testing), complete FDA and other documentation, and finally move to the manufacturing stage. Throughout the process, you will interact with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including customers and end-users, Marketing, Operations, and other departments, and finally with vendors to ensure they know what they are manufacturing. You will need to be comfortable and effective in your communication, flexible as you navigate constant changes, and skilled at balancing multiple priorities.
