To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Mechanical Engineer opportunity, you will have:

Reporting to the Vice President, Research and Development, as Mechanical Engineer, you will serve as a key member of the Product Design team. You will work collaboratively with Industrial Design and proactively inform the design of concepts, prototypes and final products by applying Good Engineering Practices. The goal is to produce production-ready medical products that meet the functional, marketable and aesthetic intent of the design.

More about the Requirements
In addition to the qualifications described under The Requirements tab, the following experience is a plus:
  • Knowledge in the use and design for plastics
  • Knowledge in the use and design for metal, soft goods
  • Knowledge in design for assembly  
  • Familiarity with the patent process
  • Engineering experience in orthopedic bracing is a plus
  • Experience working directly with customers is an advantage, though you can gain that experience on the job
In addition to these requirements, you should be open to limited travel, when safe again, to see customers, vendors and/or manufacturing sites in the U.S., Mexico and overseas.

More about the Role
In addition to the details under The Role tab, specific duties will include:
  • Supporting design efforts through collaboration with multiple departments such as Marketing, Industrial Design, Quality and Operations
  • Supporting the Design team to best achieve the functional, cost and aesthetic objectives of the project
  • Interpreting communication in the form of 2D layouts, prototypes, 3D models, written or verbal instructions to achieve completed CAD layouts and models ready for production  
  • Providing assistance on part, assembly and material testing definition, design and documentation with a goal to develop superior results in product performance and production
  • Making material and process recommendations for optimal product designs
  • Supporting designs in engineering technical documentation, 2D and 3D CAD formats
  • Providing support for testing, documentation and sustaining engineering as needed
The scope of each project typically includes a good deal of time dedicated to the ideation stage -- there's a lot of brainstorming as everyone shares their ideas. From concept, we'll decide on the design direction, engineer the product, test (mechanical and user testing), complete FDA and other documentation, and finally move to the manufacturing stage. Throughout the process, you will interact with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including customers and end-users, Marketing, Operations, and other departments, and finally with vendors to ensure they know what they are manufacturing. You will need to be comfortable and effective in your communication, flexible as you navigate constant changes, and skilled at balancing multiple priorities.

This is a prime role for an up-and-coming mechanical engineer. We have an exemplary team of industrial designers with 20+ years of experience and are adding engineering talent to the process. You will be a key part of that initiative and will enjoy the support and mentorship of a skilled senior mechanical engineer as you come up to speed. At the same time, you'll be taking on a good deal of responsibility so will need to step up in short order and take ownership of your role. To be an outstanding Mechanical Engineer, you will:
